The overall experience can be summarized by one word: Perfect! Andres picked us up in the morning to start the day with horseback riding. The horses were very gentle and extremely easy to ride. We strolled and trotted through the hills outside of Medellin for a memorable experience. Afterwards, we went to the Coffee Farm, where we had lunch and a in depth lesson on coffee brewing and making. I learned to appreciate coffee making even more after picking coffee beans and seeing the entire coffee making process from planting to roasting. Highly recommend to others!

The Coffee and Horses private tour was absolutely amazing. A definite highlight of the trip. We were picked up by our excellent tour guide Yuly and began the day with a tour on horseback through some beautiful terrain. Then we went to a coffee farm and saw the entire process of preparing world class coffee. We had a delicious lunch and were able to try a few different preparation methods for the coffee. Would definitely recommend! And Yuly is an excellent guide if you’re lucky enough to get her.

First off, Sara our guide was amazing. Such a wonderful and energetic guide for this private tour. She picked us up at the hotel and our first stop was the horseback riding. Our horses were very well trained and we rode calmly for the most part, but we also trotted and even galloped. If you don’t want to do the latter just say it and they will adjust accordingly. Sara rode in the front most of the time and Geo rode behind us. The weather was gorgeous and the scenery is breathtaking. Excellent start to the day! The next stop was the coffee plantation. Such a great experience! It started off with a very good lunch served authentically in a leaf. We then tried coffee made 2 different ways and after that we walked the plantation, picked beans and learned about the whole process. We then had 2 more coffees made differently with a great dessert (plantain, guava and cheese). We met the owner of the farm, Don Antonio. His son (Erwin) along with Sara did an amazing job in explaining the whole process. We also bought some coffee beans and tea. We highly recommend this tour. It was such a beautiful day

The horse riding and coffee tour was the best thing we did on our vacation to Columbia. We had not done horse riding before but Sara made us feel so comfortable and easy around the horses. The horses were just amazing. I was happy to learn that we help the horses by supporting them with these tours. The coffee tour was amazing because we learnt so much about coffee that we did not know and going to the farm and meeting all the dogs and chickens was wonderful. Sara was a great tour guide and would definitely do this tour again!

We had so much fun! Diego lead me and my three friends throughout the whole day. He was super accommodating and knowledgeable about everything! Despite a mini downpour during our horseback ride, Diego helped us dry off and gave us jackets to warm up, he even offered to take us back to our hotel to change before heading to the coffee farm. Once at the farm, the family who runs it was so friendly, the food was amazing, and everyone was so well informed about the process of making coffee — walking us through it and answering all of our questions. Plus, they let us practice our Espanol and were so patient. The coffee was phenomenal, we definitely bought our fair share to bring back to the States! We highly recommend this tour, you’ll have an amazing time!!

Our time horse back riding and enjoying the coffee tour was AMAZING. Henry was great, funny, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The horseback riding was BEAUTIFUL, an area of Colombia we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. The coffee farm was also gorgeous, all family owned, the people were so friendly and the meal+ coffee were perfect. Best tour we took while in Medellin. I would recommend to everyone!

Andres is a wonderful guide who has designed a great itinerary. He is committed to providing an authentic Colombian experience and took us to places that are off the beaten path. The horseback ride was great and was tailored to satisfy both an experienced rider and an inexperienced rider. We enjoyed a variety of terrain – forests, stream crossings and even a ride through a small town!
Lunch was at a small family owned coffee farm. I have a much deeper appreciation for coffee and all of the effort it takes to make coffee. Andres is very knowledgeable about coffee production from start to finish. My husband and I feel like coffee experts now! The family that owns the farm are very kind and inviting. They make great coffee and sell it at very reasonable prices.
I must note that Andres goes above and beyond. We were having issues with our debit card and he drove us to several ATMs to try to find one that would work. Sadly, we had no luck but Andres was able to help us arrange for a ride to the airport that would allow payment by credit card. Our only regret is not having one more day in Medellin to take another tour with Andres!

Horseback Riding in Medellin:
After we pick you up at your place of stay we drive south of Medellin to meet the first friends you will make this day: the horses.
After booking this tour we get in touch to ask you some questions about your experience with horses so we can choose the right horse for you.
When we get there we will already know which horse will make a perfect match for each rider.
After greeting your soon-to-be best friend for the next two hours we help you get on the horse and give you the instructions to have a safe, fun and comfortable ride.
Whether you are an experienced rider or a beginner this activity is for you.
Our very friendly and obedient horses are suitable for children and non-skilled riders.
Our horseback rides have beautiful sceneries with unforgettable views that will last forever in your memories.
We have great horses! You can canter and gallop if you feel like it, otherwise we can just go slow to appreciate the surrounding landscape.
We provide insurance to all our guests in case of emergency.
In addition, we always ride with two guides, one in the front to lead and the other in the back to follow.
This is to ensure your horse follows the guide and stays with the group.
We are very proud to not have had an accident to date in over 300 rides, which is why we recommend you follow the guide's instructions at all times.
After 2 hours we finish the ride, say thank you and goodbye to our beautiful friends and continue to our next stop.
Coffee Farm Tour and delicious lunch:
Once we get to the coffee farm we are warmly welcomed by the farmer and his family.
Depending on the time we offer the lunch right away or we wait until you get hungry.
The lunch is cooked by them with fresh ingredients, most of them grown organically in the farm.
With our stomachs full and happy we start with the coffee tour.
The coffee production stages you see in this coffee tour in Medellin are:

Our lovely hosts will serve us their highest quality coffee employing 4 different brewing methods: Chemex, French Press, Italian Moka and Japanese Syphon so you can compare and determine which method you like the most.
While you are enjoying a nice cup of coffee, the expert gives you an informative introduction into the world of Colombian coffee.
After this very entertaining introduction, we begin the walk around the coffee farm.
Hands-on Experience: Picking the Coffee Beans
We start by picking the beans ourselves as the farmer guides us in the process.
Tips about how they should be picked, how this task is done by women and men alike, wages and more are provided during the picking.
You won’t only be picking coffee beans.
From the moment you arrive in the coffee farm you will be amazed with the views we have.
This coffee tour in Medellin is also an opportunity to get in touch with nature, interact with the coffee farmers and breathe fresh air.
At the end of this activity, we will weigh your coffee load to see who did the best job.
Depulping, Fermenting, Washing and Drying the coffee beans
At this stage the skin is removed leaving the slimy beans apart.
They are fermented for around 24 hours or more depending on the type of coffee you want to make.
After fermentation we wash it with clean water and they are taken for a natural drying process that takes few days.
The next process in our coffee tour in Medellin is threshing the dried beans.
To do this we use a small machine. We hope you can help us to pour the beans inside the machine and see how it works.
After we have removed the shell from the coffee beans they need to be roasted.
At this point we explain in detail how the coffee beans are roasted and we smell this delicious coffee aroma.
The roasting step has a big impact on the caffeine amount, do you know what roasting level has more? Blond, medium or dark?
After we have roasted the coffee then you can buy it fresh and delicious, this is the best 100% organic and single origin coffee you can find in Medellin.
We are now ready to head back in our comfortable car with a big smile and new friends (animals and humans).
