If you are looking for a unique way to experience Colombia’s natural beauty, adrenaline, and culture all in one day, our Rafting Tour in Medellín is the perfect choice.
Just outside the city, two incredible rivers await: the Santo Domingo River, ideal for beginners and families, and the Calderas River, designed for thrill-seekers looking for stronger rapids.
This full-day experience lasts approximately 8 hours from hotel pick-up to drop-off in Medellín.
It combines the excitement of rafting with breathtaking scenery, a taste of our region’s culture, and the safety of professional guides.
Whether you’re new to rafting or an experienced adventurer, we have the perfect option for you.
Why Choose a Rafting Tour in Medellín?
Medellín, known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” is surrounded by lush Andean mountains, tropical forests, and powerful rivers that make it an ideal destination for outdoor adventure.
Unlike other rafting spots that require long travel or multi-day expeditions, here you can enjoy a world-class rafting experience in just one day.
On this tour, you’ll not only challenge yourself on the river but also enjoy the scenic drive, the warm hospitality of our people, and a traditional Colombian lunch by the water.
It’s a perfect combination of adrenaline, culture, and relaxation.
Rafting Tour in Medellín Itinerary
Your Rafting Tour in Medellín adventure begins with a convenient morning pick-up from your hotel.
As you leave the city behind, the drive takes you through the rolling hills and vibrant countryside.
This scenic journey, usually two hours is the perfect way to appreciate the diversity of Medellín’s landscapes before the action begins.
Upon arrival at the meeting point we’ll transfer vehicles to a 4×4 to start a 15-minute drive along a scenic road that takes us to the river.
Once there, you’ll receive your personal safety equipment for the activity. We’ll then enjoy a short hike through the forest, where you can spot the unique flora and fauna of the region.
Upon arrival at the river, you’ll meet your certified local guides, who provide a safety briefing (fully in both English or Spanish) and all necessary rafting equipment—helmet, paddle, and life jacket.
They’ll walk you through paddling techniques, safety tips, and teamwork strategies, ensuring you feel comfortable and ready for the water.
Then it’s time to hit the river for the highlight of the day: rafting through breathtaking landscapes.
Option 1: Santo Domingo River (Level I–II)
The Santo Domingo River is perfect for those who want to enjoy rafting in Medellín in a safe, gentle, and scenic environment. With class I–II rapids, this option is great for beginners, families with children, and anyone who wants to experience rafting without intense difficulty.
Highlights of the Santo Domingo River
-
Gentle rapids, ideal for first-time rafters.
-
Surrounded by lush forests where you can spot tropical birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.
-
Calm stretches perfect for swimming or simply floating and enjoying nature.
-
Approximately 1.5 hours on the river, with plenty of time to soak in the landscapes.
The Santo Domingo River provides the best introduction to rafting near Medellín, offering the thrill of white-water rafting in a safe and accessible way.
Option 2: Calderas River (Level III–IV)
For those seeking a bigger adrenaline rush, the Calderas River is the ultimate adventure. With class III–IV rapids, this option offers faster currents, bigger waves, and thrilling drops that will get your heart racing.

Highlights of the Calderas River
-
Stronger rapids and technical sections for more excitement.
-
Approximately 10 kilometers of rafting, lasting about 2.5 hours on the river.
-
Surrounded by majestic mountains and untouched forest.
-
A perfect choice for adventurous travelers, groups of friends, or those with previous rafting experience.
The Calderas River delivers an unforgettable challenge and is considered one of the most exciting rafting spots near Medellín.
In both options midway through the tour, you’ll stop to enjoy a traditional Colombian lunch by the riverbank, often a “fiambre” wrapped in banana leaves—a delicious region’s tradition.
After completing the river adventure, you’ll return by vehicle to the meeting point to transfer to the original vehicle and head back to Medellín.
After 2 hours driving you’ll be dropped off at your hotel with unforgettable memories of one of Colombia’s most exciting outdoor experiences.
Important: One River Per Day
Guests can choose to do either the Santo Domingo River or the Calderas River depending on their experience and comfort level.
Since both require travel, preparation, and dedicated time on the river, it’s not possible to do both on the same day.
This gives you the flexibility to select the option that best fits your interests—whether it’s a relaxing introduction to rafting or a high-energy adrenaline ride.
