As tour specialists we think that two things in Medellin that should be in your bucket list are visiting the Guatape rock and a coffee plantation.
We always want you to have the best options in the market and that's why we designed this Guatape and Coffee Farm tour thinking about your time and budget.
Guatape and Coffee Farm Tour Itinerary
All our tours are private and include pickup and drop off, so we start from your place at the time that is more convenient for you.
Then, we head east of Antioquia to start with our first delicious stop.
Exotic Fruit Tasting
Colombia is the most diverse country in the world in fruit production, as we grow over 430 fruits throughout our territory.
This is why we think we should take you to a fruit stand to try some of them.
In this short stop we provide you different exotic fruits you probably didn't even know existed, with intense sour or sweet flavors.

These are some of the fruits we could try in our Fruit Tasting included in this Guatape and Coffee Farm Tour.
How many of these exotic fruits have you tried? Wait no more and try them with us, you never know if you will have another chance in the future.
After delighting the palate with these exotic fruits we are ready to head to our second stop: the Coffee Farm.
Coffee Farm Tour
At the coffee plantation you meet a lovely traditional coffee farmer that will walk us through the amazing world of coffee.
We start our coffee tour with an introduction in which we explain the different stages of coffee production from the moment they are planted to when they are ready to be picked from the trees.

After this complete introduction we start to pick coffee beans in the plantation.

After picking coffee beans we peel, ferment and wash them to remove the mucilage and continue to the next stage.
Drying the coffee beans
The coffee beans need to be completely dry in order to be processed.
To do this, a type of green-house called Marquesina is used, which keeps and increases the heat inside drying the beans faster.

Threshing, Roasting, Grinding and Packing the coffee
When the coffee beans are completely dry we need to remove the shell so we use a machine to do it.
The result of this process is the green coffee. This is the stage at which most of the Colombian coffee is exported.

However, in our coffee tour the process goes further with the roasting process having 3 different levels depending on your taste:
- Highly roasted.
- Medium-high (most popular one).
- Medium.
The next process is the grinder, where we put the brown roasted beans to grind.
Finally, the last process is packing the fresh coffee you just processed.
After our hosts pack the coffee you can buy it directly from them at a very fair price.
After learning everything about coffee, we go towards the Guatape Rock.
Climbing Up The Guatape Rock
At this massive rock you get the chance to climb up it. It's 749 steps and 50 minutes approximately to go up and down.

Once you reach the top, you can stay up there for as long as you wish as you witness one of the most beautiful views you have ever seen.
This is not only our opinion but that of hundreds of tourists we have taken there.
However, our Guatape and Coffee Farm Tour still has more to offer.
Our next destination is Guatape, one of the most colorful and picturesque towns in Colombia.
Guatape Town The City of Zocalos
At this town we take a fully narrated walking tour through the town's landmarks: church, main square, remembrance street, Zocalos Square and more.

If you like shopping this is a good place to do it since there are a lot of hand crafted souvenirs and all kind of items to bring back home.
After we finish our visit in this beautiful Guatape town we head back in our comfortable private car.
This is a tour full of good memories and insights on coffee and the culture of this region that will leave you very satisfied.
You can also do these two activities separately, Just Guatape one day and Coffee tour on a different day.

Diego was an excellent and personable tour guide. He has built great relationships in the areas we visited and it felt like getting a personal tour from a local friend. There were multiple aspects of the trip that we never could have planned ourselves as foreign tourists – visiting a farmer’s market in a small town to try fruits, interacting with a small coffee producer, and learning about the zocalos in Guatape. We were able to move through the day’s stops at our own pace and really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing time doing this day long tour with Diego. He was super knowledgeable and sweet and funny and made this entire experience so memorable!! We will definitely be recommending this tour to any friends who visit Colombia soon 🙂

Awesome tour! Diego was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and friendly and speaks English very well. All of the activities were very fun, especially visiting the coffee farm and picking coffee beans. Diego and Andres took care of all the logistics and everything was super smooth. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to visit Guatapé

Diego and Andres are the best tour guides you will meet on any trip. They accommodated my family with an inspiring level of excellence. Diego is so fun and knowledgeable while he showed us around and answered all our questions. He made us feel comfortable and welcomed. Andres handled the driving and logistics and escorted my mom around while she was having knee issues. Even Miller, the owner of the coffee farm, leaves a lasting impression with his quiet kindness and delicious coffee! The whole day felt like hanging with old friends. I feel lucky to have met them all. Thank you for an experience that has become the highlight amongst the best of memories. I look forward to visiting again soon.

My family of four had a great time with Diego. He arrived at our hotel in El Poblado on time to pick us up. He actually arranged to pick us up early so that we could get to the flower farm before the big crowds arrived. It worked perfectly. We were the only ones there, and we saw the big tour buses arriving just as we were leaving! We stopped in Marinilla at the farmer’s market to taste exotic fruits. Again, we were the only tourists there! We then climbed the stairs to the top of La Piedra del Peñol, and then headed over to tour the colorful town of Guatapé. We had a very good day with Diego and he was kind enough to drop us off at a different hotel near the airport.

We had an amazing day with Diego to Guatape and a coffee farm. Pick up was simple and on time, his driving was excellent, and we really enjoyed all the conversation and extra information that only a local could provide. The coffee farm tour was our favorite part, super authentic and not touristy at all.

We absolutely LOVED the tour yesterday and Erika was nothing short of fabulous! She was extremely knowledge about everything we went to see and also pointed things out to us along the drive. She told us about Guatapes history and the rock! We could not have asked for a better tour guide!

The tour was amazing! It was a mix of different activities all in one. Our tour guide Andres was kind and extremely knowledgable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic coffee experience and for anyone who is interested in seeing the beautiful Guatape and el Penol!

Erika was absolutely incredible! Her in-depth knowledge of the region, including interesting local history outside of the main “tourist sights” was second to none. Her hospitality, accommodation, and all around positive energy made the trip the perfect way to spend a day. I could not recommend highly enough.

We had an amazing tour to Guatape with Sara today! From the start, she was warm, charismatic, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. She made the entire experience feel fun and relaxed, and was more than willing to adjust the itinerary based on our interests and pace. Her positive energy and genuine care for making sure we had a great time really stood out. It was one of the highlights of our trip — highly recommend touring with her!

We spent an amazing, very full day with Laura. While I enjoyed climbing Penol and visiting the town of Guatapé, my favorite parts of the day were the fruit tasting in the market and the coffee farm visit. All of the fruits were so delicious, and the coffee farm was beautiful and very informative. And Laura was a great guide who was very knowledgeable and easy to spend time with!

We started early to Guatape with Laura and had an amazing day!! She was able to tell us all about the areas that we traveled past and has a funny sense of humor that kept us entertained! We loved picking coffee beans and walking the town, eating lunch like the locals. Laura’s English is fantastic and we would 100 percent book again! Andres was easy to communicate with about the trip and what to bring. Thanks for a wonderful day!!

Erika was absolutely amazing! This tour is a must! She picked us up more than promptly. Her communication was incredible. Her knowledge of Columbia and the places we went was on point! We went to the Rock, tasted fruit from the market, explored the coffee farm, fed alpacas and toured Guatape. Every local knew her at every location. She is clearly loved!

The Guatape, coffee farm, El Penol Rock & Quaint Town tour was the BEST combo! Erika was our private guide and she was PHENOMENAL, PERSONABLE & PROFESSIONAL!!!
Erika’s facilitation of the tour was insightful & she was very knowledgeable & comprehensive in answering questions & providing essential information about all aspects of the tour. Loved it!!! 😘
I highly recommend this tour because it’s a great balanced combination that you will thoroughly enjoy.
TRUST ME! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! 😘

This tour was amazing! However our tour guide Erika was even more amazing. We did a private tour with my friend and 11 month daughter and she was on time and so accommodating! She advised to do the tour in reverse due to the weather and that was a smart decision for us. She knows everyone and all the best spots. She is also incredibly knowledgeable on everything. There wasn’t a question she could not answer. I learned so much on the tour from here. Plus in general during the ride she was a great conversationalist. She really made the experience for us!! Best private tour we have had and if you have small children Erika is the best!

Highly recommend Medellín Day Tours! I wanted to book a private tour due to my mom’s disability, and from start to finish the experience exceeded our expectations. Henry was such an amazing tour guide. He is very warm, sweet, friendly, and so accommodating. He truly went out of his way to make everything easier and more comfortable for us. Henry was very knowledgeable, patient, and attentive, never rushing us and always making sure my mom was okay.
We took the Guatapé and Coffee Tour, and it was a must one a kind of experience! Guatape is a beautiful town with Colombian charm. The coffee tour is a family-owned business and it was incredible to see the process start to finish up close.
Big Thank you to Henry and Medellin Day Tours for making our trip so special!

We had a fantastic time on our tour from Medellín to Guatape! The fruit tasting was really fun and the coffee plantation tour was the best I’ve ever done. It was hands on, and you really got to be a part of the experience before tasting the coffee. Guatape is definitely worth seeing if you are staying in Medellín—the town is so cute and colorful. Our guide, Yuly, was so kind and informative. She was very accommodating and gave us a lot of great information about the area.
