I took a private coffee farm tour with a group of 4 other friends and it was a great experience, from the booking process through the tour, the tour company made it very easty to communicate with them and with tour guide.
Erika was friendly and super knowledgeable about coffee, from the growing process all the way through the preparation process. The family was busy, so Erika handled the whole tour herself and walked us through every single step of growing a coffee bean through how to choose a good berry to pick. She really allowed us to take our time and experience coffee bean picking, and did not rush us even though we were creeping towards the end of our day.
Erika answered all of our questions and gave us all a newfound appreciation for the coffee we drink every day. She also gave us great recommendations for dinner and for fruit markets to visit, which were two things that we were looking to do. Finally, Erika was a really safe driver despite the huge mountain we had to drive up and the busy traffic during the time we were heading up to the farm.

Our coffee tour was far more than a walk among waxy leaves and ripe cherries…it was a deep inhale of Colombia’s soul. 🫶🏼Nestled in the emerald folds of the Antioquian mountains, we stepped into a world where every every sip seem to carry the rhythm of tradition. We spent a lovely morning with Andres whose hands spoke fluent coffee. We crushed beans between our fingers, tasted brews as complex as poetry, and learned that elevation, timing, and love are just as vital as flavor notes. I can’t recommend this tour more! Especially if you are a coffee connoisseur and prefer a more personalized experience.

We also met two friendly dogs who kept trying to interact with us. Laura, our guide, was very friendly and told us lots of interesting facts about the secrets of coffee production. My private coffee farm visit was truly one of the highlights of my week in Colombia. As a solo traveler, I loved that this was a private experience with the owner of the tour company and the family who owns the farm. Touring with the family’s son — who even helped me film my content — gave me a deeper connection to the people behind the farm and their story.
The tasting deck alone is worth the trip — the view is stunning and the peaceful atmosphere made me want to stay there all day. Walking the farm, I got to see every step of the coffee process firsthand, from planting a seed (which gives me the perfect excuse to come back!) to picking beans and learning how they’re processed.
At the end of the tour, I was treated to a homemade plantain, cooked right in their home kitchen — easily one of the best things I ate during my entire stay. I also picked up a beautiful grain sack bag (the same kind they use to export their coffee) to take home.
It’s just a quick 20-minute drive from Medellín, but you feel worlds away. If you’re looking for an authentic, memorable coffee farm experience with a warm, personal touch, I can’t recommend this enough

Andrés was a terrific , very knowledgeable about coffee (having worked in the industry for many years) and about the history, food, and culture in Colombia more generally. Each of the local places where we sampled food was fantastic, and we appreciated getting to see areas outside of Medellín that we would not have found on our own. My personal favorite was the buñuelos, and seeing the largest one ever made at the same location that we ate at.
Next, the coffee experience at a small farm was really wonderful. The private lesson, from the very beginning steps of growing the coffee trees to processing the beans and brewing the coffee, was fascinating to learn about. And the lunch was also delicious— the sausage, egg, beans, and rice were incredible.
My only piece of feedback would be to not eat beforehand— there was so much great food, I could’ve had a completely empty stomach before the tour and still be quite satisfied!

This was the highlight of our time in Medellin and a must do! Firstly, Andres was amazing… he accommodated us last minute (on Easter!) when I screwed up the dates. We went to a beautiful family run farm in the hills surrounding Medellin and it was truly as special experience. Antonio kindly showed us around his beautiful farm and his wife made us a special lunch of plantains either cheese and guava jam. We got to experience first hand all the hard work that goes into growing the coffee, then harvesting, drying, grinding and packaging. We tried different brewing methods whilst sitting in a beautiful open hut. Andres explained all things coffee to us with such enthusiasm and patience. We felt like we were with friends enjoying a peaceful Sunday! Such a delight! Thank you!

This was an incredible day! Took my 80 year old father as part of our birthday tour of Colombia and he had an absolute blast. Her English was superb and her pride for the country and farming was wonderful to listen to. The farm was very close to the city so we didn’t have a lot of time wasted in the car, but once we got to the farm, it felt like we were in the countryside.

Zero doubt. Medellín Day Trips deserves my five star review. From the pickup and drive to the coffee grower. Daniel (my guide) explained every aspect of how coffee came to this area, we prepared coffee as pour over and siphon. Then we worked baby plants through their various stages. Next up was boots poncho and basket… and a hike up to go harvest. Then back down to sort the beans and prepare them for production. In a detailed way, I learned about different processes and fermentation. Lastly, we prepared Chrmex, and French Press coffees and had a snack. I bought some beans and a very caffeinated happy customer was driven back to the hotel.

We were a group of 10 friends and went on this coffee tour on a Sunday. Got picked up from our hotel in two private cars and the ride was smooth and informative.
We learnt about the entire life cycle of coffee. Visited a lovely plantation that’s family owned. Got to plant our own seeds, make our own coffee and learn and see the entire life cycle in action. Overall a fantastic and educating experience. Some friends in our group have found new love for coffee after this tour.

Laura gave us a private coffee farm tour and it was amazing. She was so sweet, accommodating, and informative. The family at the farm was also very sweet and accommodating. It made for such a great day. The farm is not far outside of the city, but the setting is beautiful and very peaceful. My family and I wanted a coffee experience that was close to the city & this tour really delivered! Our tour guide, Andrés, made sure everything ran smoothly and on schedule. Our pickup was seamless and on time, we arrived promptly and got right into the coffee tastings – it was a great way to start the day. They also gave us gear (long rubber boots and sombreros) to walk on the mountain, so as not to get too dirty. We learned about the coffee process and ended the tour with more delicious coffee and a plantain dish. We had a great time and would book with Medellin Day trips again! 🙂

Our guide Alejandra, her family, and the drivers were excellent. On this tour you visit their coffee farm, learn the history of coffee cultivation coming to Colombia and why it’s such a perfect location to grow. You also learn about (and get to sample!) the various brewing methods, and have a hands-on experience harvesting, preparing, and roasting the beans. As the only non-coffee drinker in our group, I can now attribute that to having over-processed beans or using the wrong ratio of coffee to water in the past. We of course left with a few bags of beans to grind and brew properly back home. This private tour is an intimate experience where you truly feel like a guest in their home.

This coffee tour is a must, it is such a neat experience to see a realistic coffee farm with how it functions in real life situations. I was very surprised by how the whole process of making coffee. I am usually not the biggest fan of coffee and don’t drink it too often. So even if your not a coffee person I recommend this tour it’s such a neat experience from picking coffee beans, to tasting all the different ways to make coffee and the views are amazing. The tour guides have very good English so it’s easy to communicate. I will forever look at coffee differently, it’s an eye opener I can’t wait to tell all my friends and family what I have learned if your in town definitely take the trip!

My husband, friends, and I had a wonderful coffee farm tour today with Diego. The ride from Medellin was short, and the car was comfortable. Diego was an informative and entertaining guide as he walked us through the coffee production process. The farm itself was in a beautiful and scenic area, and the farm owners were very hospitable. Our favorite part of the tour was the experience of picking some coffee cherries ourselves. We learned so much and gained a new appreciation for all the hard work that goes into producing a cup of coffee. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who’s visiting Medellin and doesn’t have time to make a trip to the coffee region.

This was absolutely the best tour my 28-year old son and I had while in Medellín. The beauty of the view from the plantation run by Antonio and his wife blew us away. They were also incredibly kind and genuinely happy and proud to show us (and let us participate in) the whole coffee process, end to end. They served us coffee on their balcony (prepared in different ways) while explaining their operation. The 1/2 day tour was perfect, allowing plenty of time to to enjoy the coffee plantation and still leave time for 2 other activities in the day. Andres was super helpful with translation and our short-notice arrangements, even setting us up with a driver for our eventual departure 3 days later. He was entertaining and provided interesting insight about local culture and history while driving us through 30 minutes of phenomenally beautiful countryside. Medellin Day Trips is very flexible too; they’ll combine tours to suit to your interests, and they have multi-tour discounts. Can’t wait to come back with my wife next time.

From your hotel we head to the coffee farm in our comfortable private car.
Once there, a charming married couple of farmers welcomes us with a delicious cup of coffee.

Hands-on Experience: Picking the Coffee Beans
We begin by picking the beans ourselves, with the farmer guiding us through the process and offering tips on how to select them.
We also discuss how both women and men are involved in this task, covering topics such as wages, lifestyle, and everything related to the lives of coffee pickers.

Depulping, Fermenting and Washing the coffee beans
At this stage the skin is removed leaving the slimy beans apart.
After being separated, the beans undergo a fermentation process for over 24 hours, during which they lose the mucilage before moving on to the next stage.
Drying the coffee beans in our coffee tour in Medellin
The coffee beans need to be dry in order to be processed. This process is extremely important to ensure good quality.
To do this, there is usually a kind of green house called Marquesina that keeps and increases the heat inside drying the beans faster.
This process depends highly on the weather, it could be 1 day or even 6, it's 100% climate dependant.
The next process in our coffee tour in Medellin is threshing the dried beans, to do this we use a small machine.
