So after we pick you up we start our day with the Graffiti tour in Comuna 13.

First Stop: Flying over hundreds of houses.

Throughout the ride in the cable car you will see lots of houses stack on top of the other.

Many of these houses were and some still are illegal settlements that belong to displaced people from rural areas as a consequence of the internal conflict.

Your guide will explain the origin of the war, its effects in the current city’s situation and the free housing program undertaken to help them.

We are going to the last station where you can see many of the free houses. The whole ride is around 30 minutes, going up and down over the green mountains.

After we come back to the metro station and now that you have more context about Medellin, its social system, its means of transportation we head towards the Graffiti tour in Comuna 13.

Second Stop: Graffiti Tour in Comuna 13.

Our Graffiti Tour in the Comuna 13 is a must do activity when you travel to Medellin.

The violent past, the beautiful present and the promising future of this district makes it a magical place and an unforgettable experience.

The street art throughout the whole neighborhood makes it more mind blowing knowing that most of them have a special meaning related to its history.

Comuna 13 is the place where the first open-air electrical escalators in the world were installed.

The escalators had a cost of USD 3,5 million and were built to help locals avoid walking up 350 stairs in a very steep hill.

Besides the escalators that became one the biggest touristic attractions in Medellin, Comuna 13 is also one of the biggest street art district in Colombia and Latin America.

Half of the neighborhood displays meaningful graffiti and you get the chance to learn their meanings in this incredible tour.

The history, the art and the progress in this neighborhood are the reasons to visit this unforgettable place.

After finishing this first section of the Graffiti Tour and Tejo experience we get on our private car and continue to the next stop: Playing Tejo.

Third Stop: Play Tejo, A Very Fun Activity

Tejo is the Colombian national sport, but much more than that, it is a fun activity that can be played with relative ease by adults and kids alike.

The drive from Comuna 13 to the Tejo place is around 20 minutes.

Once we get to the place we start giving you the instructions on how to play it.

The Graffiti Tour and Tejo includes 1 hour of playing Tejo.

As well as beer, cocktails or food depending on the number of people attending the tour.

In the booking form you will see exactly what is included for your tour.

How Should Tejo Be Played?

The setup is pretty simple: there’s a wooden box (called a “pitch”) that’s 35” x 40” and filled with clay. In the middle of the pitch is a metal circle.

Here, four packets of gunpowder (called “mechas”) are arranged at the North, South, East and West points of the metal circle.

There is also a backstop, but if you hit it when you throw any points that you receive are voided.

The goal is to throw your metal puck (called a Tejo) onto one of the mechas so it explodes against the metal ring.

You score even more points if you land your tejo in the center of the ring.

You step up to the line, which is 60 ft away from the pitch, and hope to nail a mecha.

Here’s how the scoring works:

• If you’re the closest to the center circle, you get 1 point (called a “hand”)
• If you hit a mecha and it explodes, you get 3 points (“hit”)
• If you land your tejo in the center of the ring without exploding any mechas, you get 6 points (this is called a “bullseye”)
• If you land your tejo in the center of the ring and also hit a mecha that explodes, you get 9 points (this is called a “strike”)

There are many reasons why this is a must-do in Medellin:

• You work out your arms as you need to be tossing a 1-2 kg stone from 10-18 meters.
